My 2023 Lawn Care Predictions

As we prepare for spring and the official start of this year’s lawn season, I want to put some predictions out there. I’ve shared these in my weekly email list and on Twitter. If you’re not subscribed to at least one of those, you can find the link in the description area. Special shoutout to my guy BYD from the Bermuda Grass Central YouTube channel. He posted his predictions on Twitter, and it got my brain thinking and predicting. Here are my predictions, and why I think so.

Prediction 1 - We will continue to see more robot mowers

Yes, more robots. The robots are slowly taking over. You will see more brands introduce robot mower products to market, and more robots in general, like the weed killer robot from the last episode of the show. Technology is going to continue to evolve and progress and these mowers will become smarter and more efficient, and as more competition enters the market, prices will come down.

Prediction 2 - 2023 will not be a good sales year

I think we are all aware and are feeling the effects of inflation in one way or another at this point. We’ve all seen prices going up on everything. And if you haven’t seen the price of eggs at the grocery store recently, I’m willing to bet you have your own chickens! My point is, prices are high, and budgets are thin, and most people either aren’t going to be upgrading their equipment, or they’re going to be looking at the used market to save some money. And that leads me to prediction number three…

Prediction 3 - More accessory products

This is a result of prediction 2. You might not be able to throw $700-$1000 at a new lawn mower this year, but you might be able to throw less than $100 at some type of accessory or smaller tool. Yes, I believe your favorite brands, especially those with a battery ecosystem, will continue to expand and offer smaller, convenience tools and accessories that will fit a lower, more affordable price point. Prime example, Ryobi, and they’ve been doing this a long time.

Prediction 4 - Batteries are going to get better, and more attractive

As it has over the past decade, battery technology will continue to evolve and we will see both longer battery life and larger capacity batteries come to market.

Those are my predictions for 2023. Do you agree? I’m curious to know what you think will happen this year.
